About Me

I have a passion for economic growth in Atlantic Canada and advocating for both renewables and commercial nuclear power to address the climate crisis. Emphasizing nuclear energy generates less carbon dioxide emissions over its lifecycle than any other electricity source, having Canada's leaders use the word nuclear when discussing net-zero, and addressing misinformation with stories that speak to audience beliefs will help further improve public opinion of nuclear energy.

Däniken

The Gösgen Nuclear Power Plant is located in Däniken, Switzerland on a loop of the Aar river. Their public information center is industry leading. Thirty people work in the Public Relations department at this plant with one unit and about five hundred employees. I hosted and presented an international conference at this location to show what strong stakeholder engagement looks like.

Paris

World Association of Nuclear Operators Paris Centre hosted the 2019 Young Generation Exchange Assembly. The objective was to use the first 30 years of WANO as a starting point to discuss the future of the nuclear industry and of WANO.

I presented the output of this workshop at the 2019 Biennial General Meeting in London.

Presented on behalf of the World Association of Nuclear Operators at the European Nuclear Society Young Generation Network Core Committee Meeting.

Discussed the need to attract young talent and how retaining knowledge in the nuclear industry is crucial and can pose challenges for WANO members.

In this webinar, Jesse Jenkins, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and Andlinger Center for Energy & Environment at Princeton University summarized research on deep decarbonization of the electricity sector and the portfolio of solutions needed to reach that goal at an affordable cost.

Muskrat Falls: A Product of Colonialism & Capitalism

How organisations promoting vaccination respond to misinformation on social media: a qualitative investigation
(Steffens et al, 2019)

As nuclear energy advocates, I think we can learn from how science communicators counter anti-vaccine posts. Refutations should be succinct and avoid emphasizing misinformation. We should pair scientific evidence with stories that speak to audience beliefs and values.

Which is more effective in China? How communication tools influence public acceptance of nuclear power energy
(Zhoua and Daib, 2020)

Emphasizing nuclear development as a national strategy is the most powerful instrument for enhancing acceptance of nuclear power, but it is more effective for those who have less knowledge.
